James meets Johnny at a fund raiser -

I briefly met, or I guess you could say encountered, Johnny during a Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. Johnny had come to town to help collect funds for MD and was doing so at a local TV station in San Antonio, TX, channel 12. I was a kid back then but wanted to meet him, so my mom took me to the station where I put in what I'd gotten from my piggy bank. The line was unreal but moved rather quickly. For any donation you'd pass in front of the table and Johnny would grab your hand and say thanks or some similar pleasantry. I was greatly impressed because he was not phony about it but genuinely glad to shake this kid's hand. I remember the encounter vividly, after all he was a TV star. He shook my hand and grasped it with his other hand as well and said, "Thank you." It wasn't just a blow you off type of handshake, but a genuine thank you handshake with a smile. It was hurried but didn't appear to be so... after all there were a lot of people that day. It was quick, but I've never forgotten it because it was sincere.
